Check out the new tutorial videos up and running on the Gateway Hook Company Web Site. The videos, by Tightline Productions are beautifully produced and professionally narrated. The Loop ‘N Lock video demonstrates how to tie the “double sliding loop” knot and how the knot interacts with the Gateway eye. As fall approaches check out our full inventory of Gateway hook styles and sizes. Customers from New Jersey to Colorado have been tying up hopper patterns on our Hopper/terrestrial hooks with great results. Have a customer tying mouse patterns and large attractor patterns for night fishing, he changes flies by feel so as not to spook the fish with a light. Another from Michigan is tying up salmon patterns. My old standbys, the Para Adams and PMD, size #18 and #16, have been great for small and medium streams throughout Colorado now that the water levels are just about perfect. The weather is warming up, the streams are running well, pre-melt fishing has been very productive on the Front Range, and Gateway has lots of news:

1. Gateway is now an ACTIVE member of Facebook, click our link below to check out our page. We encourage any and all feedback regarding your fishing season!

3. Gateway has made progress in partnering with fly tiers; we plan to release a line of tied flies to consumers in the near future. A list of expected flies is available now, under the Products tab.

4. We now offer Streamer’s in three sizes: #2, #4, & #6, 4x shank straight-eye. As well as Adaptors in size #8. Available through our shopping cart.

Fishing Glacier Creek after the IFTD Show

After the IFTD Show we thought a bit of fishing was in order so we headed toward RMNP. Ended up fishing Glacier Creek with friend Kyle using, of course, the Gateway Loop’N Lock System. Using 5X and debarbed #16 and #18 Adams, Caddis, Royal Wulfs and Para Drakes we had a great time with the many Brookies, Rainbows, Cuttys and Greenbacks holding in the many pockets and pools that make up this tumbling little creek. Fun fishing!!

Great IFTD Denver Show for Gateway

Gateway showed off and demonstrated their unique “easy on, easy off”, no tie Loop’N Lock Fly Fishing System to hundreds of interested parties over the course of the three day IFTD Denver Show. The reception was terrific with many retailers, guides and regional distributors trying out the system, requesting information and looking forward to inventory being available in early November. We continuously demonstrated the system, first tying the “Double Sliding Loop” Knot and then slipping the open loop through the “gate” of the Gateway Hook and then “locking” the loop down to secure the fly to the tippet; then pull open the loop and off comes the first fly and on goes the next, “lock” down the loop and you are ready to go fishing; the entire process takes about 10 seconds. A raffle was held for a Boat Box full of Gateway flies, congratulations to Guide Jeff Sirbu of the Roaring Fork Club; if anyone in central Colorado needs a Gateway Fly, Jeff will have about five dozen fairly soon.

Gateway would like to sincerely thank all the show participants that sought out the booth and stopped by to meet us. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting many new friends and greeting old acquaintances. Additionally, many thanks to the AFFTA for creating a terrific venue for showcasing fly fishing products, we look forward to participating for many years to come.

Gateway Hook Company is participating in the 2010 AFFTA Retailer Show in Denver, what a great venue for the introduction to the retail side of the fly fishing business. As of the first day we have met many interested and enthusiastic new friends and had a great time showing off the Loop ‘N Lock system time and time again, almost like doing continual magic tricks. Showing our new friends how quickly you can change a size 18 Para Adams on 5X tippet gets them every time.

Great Catch With Gateway Hooks in Jackson, Wyoming

On my way home from the Conclave I stopped in Jackson, Wy and had the opportunity to try out my new bamboo 6’ 6” 3 weight. A great rod purchased at the Conclave, I may never go back to graphite. Fished Flat Creek in the Elk Refuge for an afternoon, caught five cuttys the largest being 15+/- inches using #18 and #16 Caddis and PMDs tied on Gateway Hooks and using a Gateway 5X tapered leader. A successful afternoon spent in beautiful surroundings.

Gateway Kick Off at FFF Conclave

The Gateway booth was set up at the FFF Conclave in West Yellowstone right in the middle of the exhibition hall, we had good signage, bar high display tables and all the present and near future Gateway products spread out and on display. Working out the math, we gave a demonstration of the Loop’N Lock System every six minutes for three eight hour days; the reception was terrific, I just wish I had had product to sell and hand out.

A raffle was held for four dozen Gateway flies in a small boat box; our grand prize winner was David Small, an Englishman now living in Victor, Idaho. Congratulations David!

All in all it was a successful kick off for Gateway and we look forward to crossing paths again with all of our new friends.

Gateway Hooks Loop ‘N Lock

We aren’t easily enamored by the latest gimmick or gizmo… but the new Loop ‘N Lock hook from Gateway
makes perfect sense. Simply form a double sliding loop knot… slide it on the hook from the side, and fasten tight. To switch flies, loosen the loop and pop the fly off. We had a chance to check them out, and no, we did not punt any fish as a result of knot failure (we punted fish the old-fashioned way, through angler error). You’ll want to incorporate this option into your tying resources. Various styles and sizes (dry, nymph, etc.) will be available in early July.
